Videos Highlight Some New Motor Products

I just came across a pair of videos shot at MD&M in Anaheim a few months back that I hadn't seen before. Both done by Micromo, the first shows two new components, a coreless DC motor and a planetary gearhead.

Micromo claims that its 3890 CR DC motor is more robust than the competition, and if the specs are accurate, I'd have to agree with them. The motor's graphite commutation, powerful neodymium magnet, and high copper content in the rotor winding provide the high power, especially for such a compact motor. Potential applications include autonomous robot systems and electro-mechanical orthotic systems and exoskeletons.

The second product discussed in the first video, the 17/1, is a planetary gearhead that's available with up to five speeds, with standard reductions, ranging from 3.33 to 1, to 1,367 to 1. Another key spec is the operating temperature: -30C to 100C. The gearhead is most suited for applications that require high torque.

The second video gives some insight into a new piezo motor, the LR17, aimed at high-precision applications. With a diameter of just 17 mm, the motor can generate a 30 mNm torque. A self-locking feature lets the motor hold its position without consuming any power. The closed-loop resolution of 0.2 milli-radians (0.01 degree) is attained thanks to an integrated 15-bit magnetic absolute encoder.

If you don't believe me, check out the videos.
