The major change in baseball this season is the pitch clock, which gives pitchers 15 seconds to begin their motion with the bases empty, and 20 seconds with a runner on. A non-pitch results in the pitcher penalized with a ball. Batters not in the batter’s box by the eight-second mark are assessed a strike.
With the baseball season week old, there’s evidence the clock has sped up games, with more games taking under three hours to complete.
