Gyroscopic Sensors Aim for New Applications

With stability control emerging as one of the auto industry's fastest growing features, the demand for gyroscopic sensors is soaring.

Still, gyroscopic sensors are gaining popularity in more than just automotive applications. They're starting to see action in dead-reckoning navigation — in aircraft, boats and agricultural equipment.

"In all kinds of applications, they can tell you how fast something is spinning in degrees per second," notes Bob Scannell, product marketing manager for Analog Devices Inc.

The following are three recent gyroscopic sensor products, from Analog Devices, Robert Bosch GmBH and Systron Donner Inertial Div.
