Recipe for baked bearings

Tuesday, December 19, 2000

Like the thermometer that pops up when your holiday turkey is about to be well done, a new early warning sensor from SKF tells its customers when their bearings are about to be overcooked.

The TempGuard sensor provides a visual indication that the bearing is about to overheat, enabling users time to prevent a disaster. Typical bearing applications include fans, pumps, and gearboxes.

SKF's recipe for bearings well done includes three steps:

Step 1: Preheat the bearing housing and measure its temperature after it reaches normal operating temperature.

Step 2: Select the sensor with the closest temperature range above the measure temperature. SKF's three TempGuard sensors have the following temperature ranges: 122-140F, 140-158F, 158-176F.

Step 3: Contact SKF, Attn: Vic Burriss, 1510 Gehman Rd., Kulpsville, PA 19443-0332. Tel: (215) 513-4726, FAX: (215) 513-4475, email [email protected].
