Micro Motors Deliver More
September 25, 2006
Even though micro motors are small by definition, compact size is a primary design requirement in the minds of suppliers making miniature dc motors. The trend is not only smaller sizes, but also motors that deliver more speed and torque while fitting into thinner, smaller and lighter product designs.
According to Ted Severn, sales and marketing director for MicroMo Electronics, suppliers are turning to higher-energy magnets, winding technologies such as coreless winding and fully automated motor assembly techniques to boost performance. New motors introduced in the last three months confirm that suppliers are focusing on design efforts and are placing a premium on higher power-to-volume ratios, reliability and better motor efficiency.
