Honda Debuts Gas-Powered Civic GX in NY

American Honda Motor Co. Inc. has introduced the natural gas-powered 2007 Honda Civic GX to the New York State market. This is the first time the vehicle is available outside the California market. The Civic GX is the only dedicated natural gas-powered passenger car available to retail customers in the U.S.

The Civic GX achieves an EPA-estimated city/highway fuel economy of 28/39 miles per gasoline-gallon equivalent and carries a price tag of $24,590. Currently, natural gas is roughly 30 percent less expensive than gasoline when purchased at refueling stations and 50 percent cheaper than gas when supplied by a "Phill," the natural gas home refueling appliance.

Buyers of the 2007 Civic GX are eligible for a Federal tax credit of $4,000 for the car and an additional $1,000 in tax credits for the purchase and installation of Phill. Honda notes the Civic GX produces virtually no emissions, as natural gas is an inherently clean burning fuel.
