WLCSP Socket

IronwoodElectronics'new high performance WLCSP socket is for 0.5 mm pitch 40 ball WLCSP and 0.4 mmpitch 30 ball WLCSP accommodated in the same socket. The SG-BGA-7203 socket isdesigned for two different WLCSPs to be tested in a single socket side by sideand operates at bandwidths up to 10 GHz with less than 1dB of insertion loss. The contact resistance is typically 20 milliohms per I/O. The socket connectsall pins with 10 GHz bandwidth on all connections. The socket is mounted usingsupplied hardware on the target PCB with no soldering, and uses smallestfootprint in the industry. The socket also incorporates a new quick insertionmethod using shoulder screws and swivel socket lid so that IC's can be changedout quickly. The application of the socket is to verify the function of IC in adevelopment system specifically audio/data broadcast applications. The socketalso features independent compression mechanism for each WLCSP to accommodatepackage manufacturing variations. The specific package sizes accommodated bythe socket are 0.5mm pitch 2.77 x 4 mm, 40 ball and 0.4mm pitch, 1.28 x 4.88 mm,30 ball.

The SG-BGA-7203 sockets are constructed with high performance and lowinductance gold plated embedded wire on elastomer as interconnect material between device andPCB. The temperature range is -35 to +100 C. The pin self inductance is 0.15and mutual inductance of 0.025 nH. Capacitance to ground is 0.01 pF. Currentcapacity is 2A per pin.
