LaserQC system from Virtek Vision Int'l Inc. The LaserTM system from Virtec Vision International Inc. is for quality control inspection and reverse CAD of 2D materials. Laser QC is a fully automated, self-calibrating inspection system that provides faster 2D inspection than possible with conventional methods such as handheld gauges, coordinate measurement machines, or camera-based systems, the company says. The process consists of an eye-safe laser projector, mounted over a retro-reflective scanning table, powered by the Laser QC software.
Giddings & Lewis says its PiCPro IEC 1131 logic and function-block application programming tool allows motion control application development using PCs operating under Windows 95 or NT. Typical production processes automated using PiC controls include packaging, paper converting, food processing, plastic film production, and metal cutting.

The Silicon Graphics (SGI) octane workstation from Camintonn Corp. features a 512-Mbyte memory upgrade. The design allows users to increase Octane system memory to the 2-Gbyte maximum. The memory advancement enhances SGI's performance for high-end graphics, symmetric multiprocessing, and pure 64-bit computing environments.
