We were impressed by our time off-roading in the Jeep Wrangler 4xe hybrid-electric using battery power and we were blown away by the on-road and off-road performance of the Rivian R1T battery-electric pickup truck, so it is big news to learn that Jeep has its first all-electric SUV model planned for launch in early 2023.

That was the announcement by Carlos Tavares, CEO of Jeep parent company Stellantis during his Stellantis "Dare Forward 2030" strategic plan presentation.

Part of the announcement was the company's plan to move toward zero emissions by 2038, which will eventually require that all of its models be EVs. In addition to the Jeep arriving in 2023, the company will release an electric Ram pickup truck to compete with the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado EV in 2024.

The company's current goal is to shift all of its European sales to electric power and half of U.S. sales by 2030. The company further said that it plans to field an SAE Level 3 driver assistance system by 2024. Unlike today's systems, this will not require vigilance by the driver.

Along the way, it looks like we will have the opportunity to enjoy the fun of silent, instant-torque off-roading in this stylish Jeep 4x4 this time next year!
