Camping Tech Smooths Out the Rough Edges From “Roughing It”

Some simple tech gadgets can make the camping or hiking trip safer and more enjoyable.
These readily available tech products can make the camping or hiking trip safer and more enjoyable.

The notion of someone on a camping trip feverishly rubbing together two worn wooden branches to start a fire, or holding a match to illuminate a primitive trail map deep in the woods has long disappeared. As with other aspects of recreation, technology is now available to make the trip into the woods safer and enjoyable, ranging from more accurate navigation devices to portable cooking gear that can whip up a hearty outdoor meal.

Many of these products don't necessarily scream of high-tech, though technical advances have made camping gear smaller, lighter, and safer to use. They can be easily found in sporting goods stores or online.  The point is to make a list of what you need well in advance of your trip into the wilderness and stock up beforehand, so you are prepared for any situation that may arise. Remember, you are likely to be in the middle of nowhere.

The following gallery lists some techꟷand a few non-techꟷproducts to take on the trails. Happy camping!
