95 Percent of Vehicles Are recycled

Of all consumer products, which are most likely to get recycled? Most people name soft drink bottles, but their recycle rate is only 45 percent. With paper, it's only 34 percent. Only 67 percent of major appliances get recycled. With cars however, the recycle rate is a hearty 95 percent.

And 84 percent of the car - by weight - is recycled. That percentage could go even higher. The U.S. Council for Automotive Research (USCAR) - which is composed of automakers - is working with the U.S. Dept. of Energy's Argonne National Lab. and the Plastics Div. of the American Chemistry Council to raise the recycling percentage of each vehicle nearer to 100 percent.
