The Bureau of Labor Statistics has released new data on the outlook for engineering disciplines. The median annual wage for engineering occupations was $83,160 in 2020. It’s no surprise that the median annual wages for all engineering occupations were higher than the median annual wage for all occupations in the economy, which was $41,950.

The slides show the median wages and the overall job prospects for each engineering discipline.

The average growth per year for engineering jobs is 3%. Some engineering disciplines are growing beyond average – such as industrial engineers at 10% growth – while other disciplines – such as agricultural engineers at 2% growth – are expanding below average.

There is also a great disparity in engineering salaries. Aerospace engineers are earning the median pay of $118,610 per year, while the median pay for civil engineers is $88,570 per year.
