Dassault Upgrades V6 PLM Suite

Dassault Systemesis steering its V6 PLM suite in the direction of mechatronics design via itslatest acquisition of Geensoft, aleading provider of embedded systems development solutions, for 5.5 million Euros.

By adding the capacity to model and generatethe entire vehicle control software system in the V6 portfolio, Dassault isoffering customers a complete validation loop, connecting the design of thephysical equipment with the digital mockup. What Geensoft brings to theDassault PLM 2.0 portfolio is important as companies across myriad industriesface significant challenges mastering the growing complexity of systems andcomplying with stringent quality and safety regulations. At the same time, theyare also trying to control costs and meet aggressive delivery schedules. Theaddition of the Geensoft technology, including the AUTOSAR Builder,ControlBuild and Reqtify embedded solutions, into the V6 PLM environment willhelp users make the virtual product closer to the real world, Dassaultofficials said.

Accompanying the Geensoft acquisitionannouncement, Dassault announced V6R2011, the latestrelease of its PLM 2.0 platform, which it is touted as part of its "lifelikeexperience" strategy. The latest release includes 874 new features designed topush advances in collaboration creation, as well as an entirely new V6 Academiasolution.

As one of Dassault's primary tenets of PLM2.0, collaboration creation is about delivering sophisticated 3-D tools to makethe virtual modeling experience more lifelike along with extending designcollaboration to non-traditional users. As such, V6R2011 features advancementsto CATIA in the area of systems functionality and content, including variousautomotive-focused Modelica libraries, as well as Lifelike Human and LifelikeConveyor, two new enterprise resource modeling solutions for the DELMIAmanufacturing software that's part of the Dassault PLM suite. The newcollaborative capabilities in V6R2011 are also offered as part of the company'sready-to-use PLM solutions, based on the ENOVIA platform, which target 11industries, including consumer packaged goods (CPG), fashion, high-tech,aerospace and defense, and automotive. Also included in the platform upgrade isSIMULIA V6R2011, which delivers the power of Abaqus' multidisciplinarysimulation capabilities for complex assemblies.

Accompanying the latest V6 upgrade is a newoffer for educational institutions. V6 for Academia includes CATIA, DELMIA,SIMULIA, ENOVIA and 3DVIA in an integrated, collaborative platform.
