IP68-Rated Hall Sensors Detect Rotational Speed of Wheels in Heavy-Duty Gearboxes and Engines

Designed todetect both the rotational direction and rpm speed of gear wheels in gearboxesand engines at up to 20,000 pulses, the Baumer MTRM16 magnetic hall sensor is IP68-rated to operate reliably in harshenvironments.

The compactsensor offers an operating voltage range from 8 to 28V dc. With a maximumswitching frequency of 20 kHz, the sensor is built to withstand temperaturesranging from -40 to +120C. The sensor's IP67-rated M12 full-metal housingfeatures a front face made of IP68 rated stainless steel, protecting thesensor's electronics from aggressive environments. Baumer says the non-contactsensing principle minimizes abrasive wear and maintenance effort and as aresult, long-term, trouble free use is guaranteed.

The highspeed MTRM16 hall sensor is designed to meet stringent railroad standards, making it usefulfor use on heavy vehicles, cranes, pumps/compressors, marine vessels, miningequipment, special machinery, wind turbines and other heavy-duty applications. The completely sealed and coated all-metal housing allows the sensor to beexposed continuously to environmental aggressors such as gear box lubricationoils.

The robusthousing allows these sensors to be used in a diverse range of outdoor andindoor applications such as motor current control, slip control, roll-backprevention, wheel slide prevention, optimized starting/braking and speedcontrol and evaluation.
