Switch chipsets offer modularity

For LAN switch manufacturers, Vertex Networks has released the first two chips in its third-generation XpressFlow 2001 series of 10/100-Mbit/s Ethernet switch chipsets: the SC-201 XpressFlow Engine and the EA-224 four-port 10/100-Mbit Fast Ethernet Access Controller. The switch chipsets, with a highly scaleable and flexible architecture, are built around the XpressFlow Bus providing from 1.05 to 1.6 Gbit/s of data bandwidth. The devices support up to 12 10/100Mbit Fast Ethernet ports, a combination of 10- and 100-Mbit ports, or up to 56 10-Mbit Ethernet ports. The SC-201 resolves destination MAC addresses (using an embedded high-density instruction set core processor optimized for network applications) and VLAN membership of incoming data packets. The EA-224 provides four access ports, buffers data, and handles MAC protocols. Vertex Networks: Product Code 4315
