Trusted Wireless Ethernet Radio-Basic
March 11, 2011
Phoenix Contact has added a basicversion of the Trusted Wireless Ethernet (TWE) radio. The TWE-Basic(RAD-ISM-900-EN-BD/B) transmits Ethernet data from remote locations, even inhigh interference environments.
The "basic" nature of the productindicates the removal of the standard RS-232 and RS-485/422 ports. TheTWE-Basic is a "slave-only" device, so it must be used in conjunction with astandard TWE or TWE-BUS radio acting as the master. Like the other TrustedWireless radios, the basic version features the MOTR-9 radio platform, a 1W,frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) transceiver. It operates in thelicense-free 902-928 MHz ISM band. The MOTR-9 radio lets the user configureover-the-air data rates up to 500 kbps. Adjustable packet sizes maximize dataspeed and minimize latency. The radio also incorporates selectable128/192/256-bit AES encryption to prevent unwanted intrusion and keep datasecure.
The TWE family also includes theRAD-ISM-900-EN-BD and the RAD-ISM-900-EN-BD-BUS. Both of these modules arefreely configurable as a master, slave or repeater and include RS-232/422/485ports for integrating serial devices into IP-based networks. The bus versionalso features an integrated expansion bus for connecting analog, digital andpulse I/O modules that are addressable via Modbus.
Any network PC with a web browser canconfigure the devices via embedded software. The entire family is listed foruse in Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations.
