LiveWorx IoT Conference Will Stream Free
May 4, 2015
The second-annual LiveWorx Internet of Things Conference begins tomorrow (Tuesday, May 5th) in Boston. Since the conference is reaching its 2,000-attendee maximum, conference producer PTC has decided to stream the conference live. You can register for the live stream HERE.
The first LiveWorx last year attracted about 200 attendees. This year, it's nearing sellout, with 2,000 people expected to attend. The location was chosen for its tech orientation. "We chose Boston because it's a hub of IoT-related technology innovation from established companies and startups," Charlie Ungashick, CMO at PTC, told Design News. Speakers at LiveWorx include Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, as well as Steve "the Woz" Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, among industry and analyst IoT experts.

LiveWorx follows a Hackathon held two days earlier at the Engineering Product Innovation Center at Boston University. "We have more than 230 registered participants who will put their technical expertise to the test as they crack IoT challenges, wire up prototypes and devices, pitch groundbreaking IoT solutions and build apps for smart city, accessibility and smart agriculture challenges using the ThingWorx IoT platform," said Ungashick. The Hackathon finalists will compete for cash prizes: $10,000 first, $5,000 second, and $2,500 third.

The reason behind LiveWorx is to help attendees keep up with the rapid growth of connected things in industry and consumer life. According to analyst firm IDC, the installed base for IoT devices will grow to approximately 212 billion devices by 2020. "The IoT changes how products are created, operated, and serviced," said Ungashick. "It changes the relationship between customer and company, and it brings tremendous revenue impact. McKinsey Global Institute estimates the economic impact will be as much as $6.2 trillion by 2025."
