HartfordTechnologies' line of Drawn Cup Needle Bearings consist of a stamped outer shell, cage and needle rollers. Drawn Cup NeedleBearings are similar to standard roller bearings, except for a smallerdiameter-to-length ratio, which allows them to fit tight envelopes. Bycontrolling the clearance between the rollers, rollers are kept parallel to theaxis of the shaft. The major advantage thatneedle bearings offer is that they operate with rolling motion, rather than slidingmotion. As a result, friction is less, the torque required to rotate theshaft is lowered, less heat is generated and lubrication is simplified. The bearing wear is substantiallyreduced.
Hartford Drawn Cup Needle Bearings have a low cross sectiondesign and are manufactured in chrome steeland low carbon steel in sizes as small as 3 mm I.D by 6.5mm O.D. Thebearings are typically open at both ends and Sealed Drawn Cup Needle Bearingsare sealed at one end and are often used for shaft end mounting. The seal keepsthe lubricant or non-pressurized oil from migrating, and prevents contaminationof the raceway areas. Material options for Hartford bearings include chrome steel and low carbon steel; bearingscan be supplied in lots as small as 500 pieces.
