Parker Hannifin Replaces Steel with VICTREX PEEK Polymer in New Hydraulic Coupling System

FLUID POWER:  When Parker Hannifin, Mainz-Kastel, Germany was looking to replace the steel components of its RSD quick couplings with one single injection molded component that reduced the number of components to be assembled and control the overall production costs, they selected VICTREX® PEEKTM polymer. The RSD series couplings are used to rapidly and easily connect and disconnect the hydraulic lines between a tractor and its various items of equipment (trailer, plough, etc.) without using any tools.

The technology of the RSD coupling allows for a completely safe connection of a male connector, whether pressurized or not, under adverse conditions, such as under a maximum pressure of 250 bar (3626 psi), and withstands a return flow rate that may reach 190 l/min (50.2 gal/min) and even beyond for a few seconds at a temperature close to 120C (248F).

The VICTREX PEEK polymer valve minimizes the number of components in motion during connection and disconnection which improves reliability.

The shape of the clip combined with the elasticity and the fatigue resistance of material ensures a reliable and durable connection of the pressurized male connector.

Thanks to the cooperation between Victrex, the designer and the subcontractor in charge of production, VP PLAST, Parker was able to achieve increased design freedom and simplified implementation by injection molding, while improving the functions of its RSD coupling.
