Medical Design & Mfg. West 2001

Medical Design and Manufacturing West (MD&M West), said to be the world's largest medical OEM exposition and conference, is expected to be even bigger this year, say show managers. The event, once again held at the Anaheim Convention Center, will host 1,600 exhibitors filling four exhibition halls across seven pavilions. This boost of nearly 600 exhibitors from last year's event is not the only expected growth. Twenty thousand visitors are expected to attend the event, a sizable increase from previous years.

New to MD&M West this year is the E-Business pavillion, where medical manufacturers can find solutions to web-enable their business. More than 20 companies will showcase technology from portal hosting and Internet application software to the latest online marketplaces, exchanges, and consortiums.

Visitors can also expect to see a range of disposable-device manufacturing services from more than 800 exhibitors of raw materials, injection molding, extrusions, mold designs, surface treatments, and welding and bonding. Also exhibiting are a multitude of leading contract-service, assembly, manufacturing, CNC-equipment, packaging, and sterilization suppliers.

Similar to last year's event, FDA topics will be well represented. But this year, there will be unprecedented FDA participation-14 FDA experts, including 13 from its Washington D.C. office, will speak at the show. Their presentations will address quality systems regulations, 510(k) submissions, and biocompatibility.
