New Motion System

Integral linear-rotary design

VascuLathee represents a revolutionary approach to satisfying the demanding requirements of stent manufacturing applications. The fully integrated motion system couples automated material handling functionality with high-performance direct-drive linear and rotary motion capability. The integral linear-rotary design increases throughput by two to five times when compared to traditional screw-based or other manufacturing approaches, while still maintaining submicron tolerances on tight part geometries.

The increased throughput gives much needed flexibility in the extremely competitive stent-manufacturing environment. The higher throughput of the VascuLathe implies that fewer machines are required to produce an equivalent number of stents when compared to traditional manufacturing approaches, resulting in lower total labor costs and reduced floor space requirements. Alternatively, the VascuLathe can be used to meet increased and varied product demand within the existing manufacturing space, saving the costs associated with facility expansion.

MDrives

With planetary gearbox

The innovative motor technology of the low-cost MDrives, high-torque stepping motors with on-board electronics, expands product line options to include fully integrated planetary gearboxes (PLGs). The planetary gearbox option increases the application range for the MDrive product line by increasing torque at lower speeds, enabling better inertia matching, and producing finer positional resolutions. Efficient, low-maintenance PLGs come fully assembled and integrated with every version of Mdrive, including Microstepping, Speed Control, and Motion Control. PLGs are available for each size MDrive, including NEMA motor size 14, 17, 23, and 34. Select from one-, two-, or three-stage gearboxes, and a large number of reduction ratios that range from 4:1 to 308:1. All PLGs come with an optional mounting flange and shaft keys for MDrive sizes 17, 23, and 34. MDrive is a compact, powerful, and inexpensive solution that will reduce system cost, design, and assembly time for a large range of stepping motor applications.

It can withstand long-term exposure form -80F to 500F, and has a glass transition temperature of >185C. Adhesion to metals, glass, ceramics, wood, vulcanized rubber, and many plastics is reportedly excellent. The cured system is also said to be a superb electrical insulator. EP45HTMed has been specially formulated for use in the assembly of reusable medical devices. It has the capability of withstanding exposure to repeated cycles of radiation, steam (autoclaving), and chemical sterilants. The cured system fully meets the biocompatibility requirements of USP Class VI specifications. Master Bond EP45HTMed has a convenient 100:30 mix ratio by weight, and requires a minimum cure temperature of 250F. It is 100 percent reactive, and does not contain any solvents or diluents. It can be applied by brush, syringe, or spatula. This compound is available for purchase in pint, quart, gallon, and 5-gallon container kits.

Intelligent Driver

Low-cost, easy to use

The R101 driver/controller is not only easy to use but is extremely affordable compared to similar products. The R101 is a bipolar driver/controller capable of output current ranging from 0.2 to 2.5A per phase with step resolutions from full, 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8. This new product can be configured and controlled via a simple RS485 communications bus or step and direction inputs. Multiple modules can also be controlled on the same bus using different address codes. Yet another feature of the R101 is its ability to save all user configurable parameters to a non-volatile memory, which are automatically restored after a power down/ power up cycle.

Silicone Bonding Process

Meets medical requirements for repeat autoclave sterilization

Surgical and dental instrument safety, design, and function can be improved when silicone grips and sleeves are custom-molded to the instruments. Minnesota Rubber's proprietary silicone bonding process creates a hermetic seal between the silicone and the over-molded instrument. This seal withstands repeated autoclave cycling and inhibits the migration of body fluids between sealed surfaces. Ergonomically designed features increase rotational control of instruments while providing a light and secure grip. Silicone molded designs are possible that satisfy requirements for accuracy, durability, comfort, and, most significantly, tactile sensitivity. They also allow for color customization of stainless steel, high-performance plastics, and aluminum instruments. In addition to surgical and dental instruments, the process has a potential fit for a wide range of medical and pharmaceutical applications.

Stepper Motor

Small and useful, with only Ø 6 mm

The ARSAPE product program has been extended with the development of this new stepper motor. With an excellent power to volume ratio, 6 mm outer diameter, 9.3 mm length, and weighing only 1.4 gm, the new ADM 0620 is reportedly the smallest, produced in series, two-phase stepper motor in the world. The motor is designed for voltages between 3 and 6V (voltage regulated). The motors have a sintered bearing in the standard configuration but are also available with ball bearings. The operation temperature range is from - 40C up to 70C. Various controllers are available for the motor and special controllers can be developed upon request to match any system. The modular complement, the 06/1 planetary gearhead, is also 6 mm in diameter. The precision gearhead has a steel geartrain and is made for operating temperature of up to 100C. Available reduction ratios are from 4:1 up to 4,096:1. Areas of application include precision medical instruments, optical instrumentation, security and inspection systems, microactuators, and any application where the size, cost, and reliability play a deciding role.

One-Component Visible Light Curable Polymer System

Fast cure speed

The UV10LC-12, a one-component high-performance polymer system, can be readily cured by exposure to either visible or UV light. It is designed for bonding, sealing, coating, and casting applications. It has a service operating temperature range of -80 to 250F, and can withstand repetitive thermal cycling as well as vibration and mechanical shock. The UV10LC-12 fully meets USP Class VI specifications for use in medical applications. It is 100 percent reactive and contains no solvents or other volatiles. It reportedly has an exceptionally fast cure speed upon exposure to a visible or a UV curable light source. Depending upon the intensity of the light source, cure times range from a few seconds to less than a minute. These cures are not air-inhibited even when relatively low intensity light sources are used. The UV10LC-12 has superior adhesion to a wide variety of similar and dissimilar substrates. These include glass, ceramic, metals, selected rubbers, ABS, acrylics, polycarbonates, etc. It has remarkable resistance to long-term exposure to water, salt solutions, many other aggressive organic, as well as inorganic chemicals. Master Bond UV10LC-12 is easy to apply, and is available for use in pint, quart, gallon, and 5-gallon containers. It is also available in syringe applicators. It has a six-month shelf life in unopened containers at 75F.

Two-Component Epoxy Resin

For the assembly of disposable and reusable medical devices

With full USP Class VI Certification, the EP21LV (3/5) is a unique flexible epoxy resin compound that is 100 percent reactive and does not contain any solvents or other volatile ingredients. It cures readily at ambient or more quickly at moderately elevated temperatures. The service temperature range extends from as low as -80F to above 250F. The compound also offers excellent bonding characteristics to metals, ceramic, glass, most polymers, and elastomers. The gap-filling behavior is most attractive for sealing as well as bonding applications. Lap shear strength to many different substrates used for the manufacture of medical devices exceeds 1,400 psi with elongations in excess of 25 percent. The excellent electrical insulation characteristics, superior impact strength, and retention of pertinent performance properties are reportedly valuable upon prolonged exposures to adverse environmental conditions. Additionally, the cured EP21LV (3/5) epoxy features remarkably high dimensional stability and durability.
