UPS and EVI Debut Electric Walk-In Van

Over the past year, UPS and EVIhave worked to develop the zero-emissions vehicle - the EVI-WI - to meet theneeds of the parcel delivery service industry. The EVI-WI is built on a gliderproduced by Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. The chases is then equipped withan Utilimaster body.

Earlier this year, EVI receivedCalifornia Air Resource Board (CARB) approval for the EVI-WI. This will allowcustomers who purchase the EVI-WI to take advantage of a $20,000 CARB rebatethrough the Hybrid Truck and Bus Inventive Project.

Both UPS and EVI have a longhistory of efforts to reduce energy consumption. UPS says it has beensupporting alternative fuel technologies since the 1930s. The carrier currentlyoperates 2,000 alternative-fuel vehicles worldwide that are powered by avariety of hybrid, electric and natural gas technologies. EVI has beenmanufacturing zero-emission, all-electric power trains for 20 years, accordingto the company.
