Ultra-Thin Light Guides From Global Lighting Technologies

GLT'sedge lighting technology employs side-firing, high efficiency LEDs and focusesthe light into a high-performance, ultra-thin light guide (0.6 mm or less) utilizinglight extraction technologies such as Microlens, which extracts light preciselywhere needed to provide bright, uniform light in a thinner form factor withouthot spots or dark areas.

The LEDs are strategically spaced alongthe edge of the light guide and GLT saysthey offer better control of color and uniformity, lower part count and reducedpower consumption.

The ultra-thin profile of the lightguides is useful for graphic interfaces employing capacitive or field effecttouch technology. Placed between the PC board/circuit sensor and the graphicoverlay, their thinness makes it easy for the signal to go from the graphic overlaythrough the backlight and to the sensor. The user can touch right through themwith no loss of sensitivity.

They can eliminate the need to useindividual LEDs for each icon, button or symbol as well as multiple LEDs forlarger areas such as company logos. Larger graphics and multiple smaller iconscan be vividly illuminated with one or two LEDs positioned along the edge of alight guide.

GLT'slight guides are compatible with a variety of overlays, including glass,polycarbonate, polyester, acrylic and most non-conductive material.
