Surface-Mount Capacitor Provides PCB Space Savings

AVX Corp.'s PulseCap Series capacitors featurethe 'undertab' termination style, where traditional 'J' leads are replaced byterminations that do not protrude outside of the outline of the case. The undertab style increases volumetric efficiencyand allows parts to be positioned closely together, delivering significantspace savings. The Pulsecap Series also includes devices with voltage ratingsup to 10V. The 2200/1500AmuF / 6.3V PulseCap capacitors are available in twodifferent case sizes: four (7.3 x 6.3 x 2.0 mm) and six (14.5 x 7.5 x 2.0 mm).

The additionof the 3300AmuF/ 4V version completes the PulseCap family of 2 mm low profile, large case size capacitors. The PulseCapversions will employ a conductive polymer as a second electrode, which resultsin a safer, reduced-ignition failure mode and even lower ESR. These newcapacitors will be extremely robust in preventing overloading and thermalrunaway. Samples of the new devices will be available during the first half ofthe 2011.

PulseCapSeries capacitors are RoHS compliant and capable of withstanding a solderingprofile of 3x reflow at 260C. Operating temperature range is -55 to +125C.Other applications include wireless data cards, solid state drivers, smartmetering and sensors.
