Customized surface mountconnectors from Advanced Interconnectionsreduces board space by utilizing the perimeter of circular and other odd-shapedPC boards.

SMT Perimeter Connectors arecreated from customized FR-4 insulators on in-house driller/routing machinesand incorporate screw-machined, solder ball terminals (available down to 0.50 mmpitch) on both the male header and the mating female connector (socket). AdvancedInterconnections says vertical integration including precision CNC machiningand hundreds of existing screw-machined terminal designs eliminate the need forexpensive tooling and set-up costs such as stamping dies.

The semi-circledesign maximizes space when stacking circular printed circuit boards andfeatures an integrated keying/polarization feature. The light-weight, lowprofile FR-4 insulator can be transitioned to a molded design to reduce costsin production volumes. Typical applications include military and medicalequipment.

To support prototypes andsmall volume runs, Advanced says it can provide an affordable design and roughsample for electrical and mechanical testing, typically in less than 5 days.
