Every year during the third Sunday through fourth Sunday of February, National Engineers Week is celebrated in the U.S. Initiated by the National Society of Professional Engineers in 1951, the week highlights the important role engineers play in today’s society. Not coincidentally, the week takes place during the time we honor the first president of the U.S., George Washington, who himself was an ardent supporter of technology during his time.

On the National Engineers Week site, DiscoverE, an industry coalition promoting STEM activities worldwide, calls out what we can do to honor the engineer:

  • Celebrate how engineers make a difference in our world

  • Add your voice to the conversation about the need for engineers, technicians, and technologists

  • Engage students in engineering

The video following the story talks about the countdown to Engineers Week and the Girl Day 2024 webinar, and steps one can take to participate.

DiscoverE encourages engineers to get involved by visiting a classroom or afterschool program, introducing students to different engineers and technicians each month, and hosting an engineering event and leading hands-on engineering activities.

Visit the DiscoverE site to learn more about what you can do for National Engineers Week.
