Using technology developed in Detroit, General Motors Co. says it will build a battery-powered electric vehicle for the automotive market in India, according to reports from Businessweek and The New York Times.
During a conference call last week, GM executives said the new electric car will replace an electric version of the Chevrolet Spark, which GM was planning with the Reva Electric Car Co. The company said last week it is ending its partnership with Reva. No timetable has been announced for the new electric car.
To serve a need for an electric vehicle in the Indian market, GM said it will instead offer the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid late this year.
