Frequency Converters Enable Network Analyzers to Cover 325 to 500 GHz

The R&S ZVA-Z500 converter allows millimeter-wavemeasurements with a dynamic range of typ. > 65 dB and an output power oftyp. -24 dBm. It is useful for research and development of components in themillimeter-wave range (Y band) as well as for antenna measurements andmicrowave imaging. The new converters meet the needs of national civil andmilitary research institutions, universities and metrology institutes.

To createthe LO frequency without an additional signal generator, the R&S ZVA-Z500is connected to a four-port network analyzer from Rohde & Schwarz. Theconnected converter can be selected via the operating dialog screen of theanalyzer. All key parameters are then automatically set: the frequency limitsof the specified band, the multiplication factors for the RF and the LOsignals, the levels of these signals, and the receiver frequency. Theconverters are adapted to the network analyzers' operating concept.
