Development Kit for Freescale Kinetis K60 family of MCUs and modular Tower System

IAR Systems' IARKickStart Kit for Freescale Semiconductor's ARM Cortex-M4 based Kinetis familyof microcontrollers is compatible with the Freescale Tower System developmentplatform. This module-based kit allows rapid evaluation and prototyping withthe Kinetis microcontroller family in application areas such as industrialcontrol, medical and consumer electronics. It includes hardware boards, debugprobe, software tools and code examples. As part of the Tower System, thisevaluation kit comes with the Kinetis K60 MCU module with on-board K60N512 32-bitmicrocontroller, a serial peripheral module with connectors for Ethernet, USBand CAN. The Kinetis K60 MCU module includes capacitive touch pads, SD cardslot, 3-axis accelerometer, buttons and a potentiometer. Anadditional prototyping module provides a large area where a wide range ofapplications can be evaluated.

Target connection is provided by theIAR J-Link Lite for Cortex-M debug probe that is included in the kit. It allowsSWO debugging including SWO trace that can be used for execution time analysisand visualization of variables and interrupts in the debugger. IAR EmbeddedWorkbench KickStart and Evaluation editions are included in the kit forsoftware development. The KickStart edition has a 32k code size limit and theEvaluation edition is a fully functional version limited to 30 days. Integratedproject examples for the board using Freescale MQX Software Solutions areprovided for quick and easy start up, also when using complex peripherals suchas the USB or Ethernet controllers.

The Tower System is a modulardevelopment platform that helps developers quickly evaluate and prototype theirapplications. As they require more functionality and design capabilities, designers can easily choose from a growing MCU/microprocessor portfolio and addmore peripheral modules to their Tower System library. Select the developmentboards, or modules, that will exhibit desired features and functionality, andexperience easy implementation inherent with modular tools. In addition, standardized, open-source hardware allows Freescale customers and partners todesign additional modules for added functionality and customization.
