Brick Bus Converters

Vicor Corp.'s IBC050series of wide input range VI BRICK Bus Converters are available as drop-inupgrades for industry standard 5:1 and 4:1 converters. The new eighth and quarterbricks achieve up to 98 percent efficiency from a 36 to 60V input voltage rangeat power levels of up to 650W. With its wider input range, the IBC050 seriesalso provides 2,250V dc isolation from input to output.

The wider input range complieswith ETSI EN300 132-2 for -48V telecom applications requiring 5:1 or 4:1 busconversion from input voltages 36 to 60V. The higher input-to-output isolationcomplies with IEEE 802.3 Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) standards. Owing to theirlow effective output resistances, IBC050 series modules support output busvoltages of 7 to 12V (5:1) or 8.7 to 15V (4:1) over the line and load range.IBC050 series modules use Vicor's Sine Amplitude Converter topology and are pin-compatible.

The new VI BRICK BusConverters use the ZCS/ZVS resonant converter technology. Switching atapproximately 10 times the frequency of square wave converters, IBC050 modulescut transient response time by a factor of 10, eliminating the need for externalbulk capacitors. Power density and conversion efficiency are useful for OEMsseeking to maximize performance across a range of applications, includingtelecommunications, computing, data storage, networking andPower-over-Ethernet.
