Few now doubt the terribleness of the COVID-19 pandemic especially as the crisis has affected businesses around the world. It is also the first time in modern history that countries have asked their citizens to stay home, stop physically socializing, and maintain a physical distance to preserve the lives of everyone. It has been a period of continued confinement.

As the crisis is transforming our world, we are entering a new phase of de-confinement explained Florence Verzelen, Executive VP at Dassault Systèmes during the 3DExperience: A Virtual Experience keynote. “'Build back better’ will become the new model in a post-COVID  business community as the effects of the pandemic will be lasting.”

How can businesses perform better in this new world and become more resilient for the next crisis? Put differently, how can companies ensure their survival while contributing to the safeguard of their respective economies? According to Verzelen, five things must happen:

  1. Employees must be protected.

  2. Financial health must be maintained.

  3. Marketing and sales must be adaptive.

  4. The supply chain must be safeguarded.

  5. The ecosystem must be helped.

Let’s look at each of these necessary actions in a bit more detail on the following slides.
