This week, the relatively quiet sports world livens up with the annual NCAA basketball tournament known as “March Madness.” This fast-moving elimination tournament whittles down a large field of 68 teams to eventually a final 4, with the two winners in that round squaring off in a winner-take-all game in early April.

Who will win this year’s tournament is at this point anyone’s guess, though much speculation abounds. What is known though is that the role of technology, ranging from the AI-influenced betting apps to increasingly sophisticated broadcasting technology, to advanced analytics used in scouting teams, play a larger role than ever.
