RF Micro Devices® Expands Industry-Leading Family of 2G Transmit Modules

ELECTRONICS: RF Micro Devices, Inc. introduced three new products — the RF7170, RF7171, and RF7172, expanding RFMD’s industry—leading family of dual- and quad-band GSM/GPRS transmit modules.

The RF71xx family of transmit modules is the industry’s highest volume GSM/GPRS transmit module product family, and the GSM/GPRS air interface standards represent the world’s largest cellular market by volume. In December, 2009, RFMD announced it had surpassed shipments of 25 million RF71xx transmit modules, and RFMD expects to ship its 100 millionth RF71xx transmit module in the current quarter, reflecting increasing customer demand, particularly in Korea, China and Taiwan. Quarterly volumes of RF71xx transmit modules are currently forecasted to grow throughout calendar 2010.

RFMD’s RF71xx product family is designed to meet or exceed the evolving RF component requirements of GSM/GPRS handsets, including high efficiency, reduced solution size and robust ESD protection, while also satisfying the need for quality, reliability and reduced handset bill-of-material (BOM) costs. All three new transmit modules (TxMs) offer quad-band transmit and dual-band receive capability, making them ideal for platform designs. Additionally, the transmit modules feature multiple LGA pin-out options, allowing for optimum component routing.

RFMD offers the mobile device industry’s broadest and most innovative portfolio of radio frequency components, including cellular power amplifier modules, cellular transmit modules, cellular switch and filter modules, and front ends for Wi-Fi, WiMAX and GPS applications.
