PORTABLE DIGITAL PICTURES

Digital Foci Picture Porter (http://rbi.ims.ca/4401-541). Download images directly from memory cards into the Picture Porter's built-in hard drive. With either 20 or 40 Gbytes of storage space, the unit handles a variety of popular image, video, and even audio formats. The portable unit allows viewing on its 2-inch color LCD screen or connects to a TV for a widescreen display. Data can be transferred directly from memory cards with almost any format including CF I/II, MD, SM, MMC, SD Card, miniSD, Memory Stick, MS PRO, MS Duo, and MS PRO Duo. In addition, a USB 2.0 high-speed connection allows file transfer to and from a computer.

WRISTWATCH WITH 1 GBYTE FLASH

Xonix MP-001 Watch (http://rbi.ims.ca/4401-542). A closer look at this analog watch reveals several digital features. Xonix's watch provides digital stereo sound from an MP3 player as well as a voice recorder. The unit has a built-in microphone and earphone jack for recording and listening. LED light indicators take the place of a digital display to indicate various operating modes. USB-accessible Flash memory ranges from 64 Mbyte to 1 Gbyte. In addition to the MP3 files and voice recording, the memory can store other data files and the USB port can charge the battery.

CT IMAGER

General Electric LightSpeed VCT (http://rbi.ims.ca/4401-543). GE's volume-computed tomography (VCT) scanner's 0.35-sec rotation and 40-mm coverage allows it to capture a whole organ in one second, the heart in 5 beats, or a complete patient from head to toe in less than 10 sec. GE engineers switched from electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROMs) to Ramtron's ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM) FM24CL64 because of its increased radiation tolerance in an X-ray environment. The non-volatile memory stores the identification and calibration information of each of the 114 detector boards in the system. For more information on Ramtron International Corporation's FRAM, go to http://rbi.ims.ca/4401-544.

ELECTRIC SCOOTER

Vectrix Maxi-scooter (http://rbi.ims.ca/4401-545). This electric scooter is a clean alternative to a 400-cc gasoline-powered motorcycle and travels up to 68 miles on a single battery charge (average speed of 25 mph). The unit uses Texas Instruments' TMS320C2000 digital signal processing (DSP)-based controller to manage the performance of a custom brushless servomotor. Using the programmability of the C2000 controller in flash memory (from 16 to 256 Kbyte depending on the model), Vectrix engineers can tune their system for a wide variety of motors and performance characteristics for a range of scooter models. For more information on Texas Instruments' TMS320C2000 DSP-based controller, go to http://rbi.ims.ca/4401-546.

PORTABLE AUDIO ENTERTAINMENT

iriver T10 (http://rbi.ims.ca/4401-547). This combined MP3 player, FM radio, and FM and voice recorder has a full gigabyte of Flash memory. The unit supports subscription-based music download services and a variety of file types including MPEG 1/2/2.5 Layer 3, WMA, ASF, and OGG are accessed by a fast USB 2.0 connection. The unit's 1 Gbyte Flash memory holds up to 34 hours of music using Windows Media format at 64 Kbits/sec. With power supplied by 1.5V AA battery, listening time is approximately 45 hours.
