Deere Upgrades Crawler Dozers

The John Deere 750J and 850J Crawler Dozers have been redesigned to offer flexible machine configuration and an upgraded power train yet they still offer lower daily operating costs.

The line from the Moline, IL, equipment maker spans five main frames, 12 track frames, and 12 dozers, so blade control and machine balance can be refined by choosing the proper frame for the operator’s jobs.

PowerTech engines with 145 to 200 hp deliver more horsepower than competitive machines in low ground pressure configurations. The dozers have dual-path hydrostatic drive power train and speed-in-grip transmission control system, which can be tailored to the owner’s preference using an electronic display monitor on the front console. Decelerator response, shift rate, steering rate and modulation, forward and reverse speed, and reverse ratio all can be adjusted, with an option to return to factory settings.

A 98 gallon gas tank and a larger engine access door boost operating time, while a swinging grille provides access to the cooling system. The oil change interval has been increased to 500 hours. An automatic transmission protection feature monitors charge pressure and oil temperature, limiting operations when they are outside defined parameters, further reducing the possibility of downtime. High intensity work lights, including two additional forward and two rear lights, extend working hours.

The variable speed, hydraulically driven cooling fan trims power and fuel requirements. The hydraulic final drives also produce 14 percent higher torque than the C-Series models, giving extra track power.

The redesigned operator station has larger doors, a 12-volt power outlet, and a cup and lunch box holder. Operator effort is reduced by a rotary dial engine speed controller that allows infinite speed control while eliminating the throttle lever, linkage and cable. A dashboard decelerator mode gives operators full power when slowing the machine for finish work, winching and other low-speed duties.
