Test Your Pump Knowledge with ITT Corp's Pumps Quiz

Pumps are integral to the industrial market; so important that they even have a whole day -- Pump Appreciation Day -- dedicated to them. For the fifth year in a row as the kick-off event to this day, ITT Corp.'s Goulds Pumps, Bornemann, and PRO Services brands are hosting World of Pumps Quiz, an online pump knowledge game.

The 2016 quiz, which ITT launched in mid November, runs until midnight on April 2, 2016, and features a new question every week. The questions cover topics ranging from pump history and design to best maintenance practices and smart-pumping technologies to test industry professionals on their knowledge. Past quizzes have attracted contestants from more than 150 countries, according to ITT.

Each question is multiple choice and features interactive elements -- such as photos, videos, info graphics, and product simulations -- to help players come up with the answer. For example, question 3 of the 2016 quiz asks, "When should a vertical pump be considered?" The question shows a photo of a vertical pump and offers four possible scenarios as well as an "all of the above" option.

"We are excited to offer a new question each week to provide a challenge to industry professionals who pride themselves on the technical knowledge behind their equipment," said John Manna, vice president of Global Marketing for ITT's Industrial Process business, in a press statement about the quiz. "We're pleased to celebrate pumps of all kinds, reminding us that they truly do serve as the heart of industry."

To enter the quiz, participants can go to the Pump Appreciation Day website and click on the most recent question on the home page. Players can sign up to receive automatic notifications when the next question is posted and can choose how much they would like to participate, answering as many or as few questions as they like.

The quiz culminates in Pumps Appreciation Day in April, which not only recognizes pumps as the heart of the industry, but also promotes heart health as a human interest theme, according to ITT. The idea is that without pumps, the manufacturing industry couldn't function, just as human beings can't live without a beating heart. In conjunction with the day, ITT Goulds Pumps and its distributors invite industrial pump users worldwide to participate in heart-health events and activities, such as organizing a company or community team to join in a local heart walk fundraiser and the like.
