13 Engineering Jobs in Top Demand

 While it’s hard to say how many engineering job openings are currently available, a look at the major job sites suggest there are more than 34,000. Opportunities for engineers with specialized skills are especially strong in the unusual environment of COVID-19. If your skills help companies become more efficient, you’ll likely find jobs opening up.

Do you know COBOL? ZipRecruiter has posted more than 200 jobs for those who know COBOL in New Jersey alone. Apparently, IT departments need help with old mainframes that are buckling under the high demand for processing, particularly when it comes to unemployment applications.

Dice, the career hub for technology professionals is seeing increased demand for web developers, systems analysts, and systems engineers.

ASME Members Are Busy with Work

The American Society for Mechanical Engineers polled its members and found that for design engineers working in management, 92% report that they are open for business through some form of remote operations. However, 12% of those still employed said they have a modified schedule.

While working remote, most of these engineers using their familiar design tools. Nearly 40% are using modeling software, while another 26% are using simulation software, and 27% are using drafting software. Data management tools are also in operation widely.

Job Titles in Demand

We spent time looking at a wide range of job sites to determine what jobs are hot even during this weird COVID-19 economy. Needless to say, the engineering jobs that can be completed remotely – such as many software jobs – tend to be the jobs most in demand.
