Generative AI programs such as ChatGPT are making their mark in the workplace and education and now are also looking at recreational pursuits.

At the recent Eurobike 2023 in Frankfurt, Germany, an international fair for bicycles, premium e-bike manufacturer Urtopia displayed what it terms a smart e-bike that integrates ChatGPT, according to a blog post on its website.

The post said that ChatGPT, along with the company’s voice recognition feature, gives cyclists a companion that would provide real-time assistance based on their needs.

In a YouTube video, ChatGPT answers the cyclist’s inquiry about places to visit in the Los Angeles area, then proceeds to function as a navigation aid by providing turn-by-turn directions.

Check out the below video. What do you think of this use of ChatGPT?

Could it inspire other novel applications?

According to the blog post, this is the latest effort by Urtopia to connect its e-bikes, which cost over $1,000, with popular apps such as Apple Health to monitor fitness data and Strava to promote cycling via social media.
