The Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP)-a NASA-funded cooperative program between the states of Florida, New Mexico, New York, and Texas-operates as a free service to help small businesses receive technical assistance. The program functions with an Alliance group of 30 space industries, universities, colleges, and NASA centers. Small businesses are allowed up to 40 hours of free technical assistance, which may include process engineering, machine design, materials selection, etc. Among the Space Alliance Partners are platinum-level participants Lockheed Martin and The Boeing Company.
