With the Paris Olympics kicking off Friday for two weeks of non-stop action in sports from track and field to swimming to weightlifting and many more, hundreds of millions of viewers will watch the events, mostly on TV. While much of the attention will rightfully focus on the athletes and their stories, there has also been years of behind-the-scenes planning to coordinate key functions such as security, lodging, transportation, and all the other rigorous but necessary tasks that much pulling off a successful event possible.

Not surprisingly, technology plays a larger role than ever in the Olympics. For instance, AI and data analytics is playing a larger role in athletic training and management. Advanced video and camera technology provides accurate recording and playback of the various Olympics events and helps settle any questionable outcomes. And drones play an important role providing aerial footage of events as well as aiding a massive security effort.
