Attending DesignCon? Here's a Quick Guide of What to ExpectAttending DesignCon? Here's a Quick Guide of What to Expect
Here’s some useful advice for those attending the DesignCon show in Santa Clara.

After months of rigorous planning, the DesignCon Show and Conference─the electronic industry’s largest show for chip, board, and systems design engineers─is finally upon us. Between January 28 and 30th, the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA, will host three days of educational sessions, technical presentations, exhibits, and most importantly, the chance to network and exchange ideas with some of the brightest minds electronics design.
Much of the important information on DesignCon, including registration if you haven’t done so yet, can be found on the show site. However, for the benefits of attendees, we have included some useful information below as well as links to numerous stories the Design News staff has posted on our site over the past month.
Educational sessions
Tuesday, the first day of DesignCon, will be largely an educational day with a full slate of tutorials where attendees can enhance their knowledge on key design-related topics such as pc board design, interconnects and crosstalk, signal and noise issues, and communications links. At 11:45 am is the first of three keynote sessions, titled, “Electronics for Future High Energy Particle Colliders,” which will explore the role of electronics in helping to design future and upgraded particle colliders at CERN, the European Center for Particle Physics.
As has been the case with previous DesignCon shows, there will be a welcome reception for attendees Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm in the Santa Clara Ballroom at the adjacent Hyatt Regency Hotel. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the DesignCon Show, which lends extra significance to this year’s activities.
Exhibits and presentations
DesignCon really kicks into gear on Wednesday, January 29th with a varied and full slate of technical sessions kicking off at 8 am and ending around 5:15 pm. Later that morning, at 11 am, the exhibit hall will open for the day until 6 pm. For those wishing to unwind, there will be a booth bar crawl at 5 pm.
Wednesday’s keynote session, at 10 am, is “The Transformative Power of Accelerated Computing & AI,” to be delivered by John Linford, Principal Technical Product Manager at Nvidia. Linford will discuss the impact of accelerated computing, physics-informed AI, and generative AI in redefining the boundaries of modern manufacturing.
Several other events take place that day. As Wednesday is the start of the Lunar New Year, there will be a traditional Lion’s Dance celebration at 5:15 pm sponsored by the Rising Phoenix Dragon and Lion Dance Association to celebrate the Year of the Snake.
Also, for first-time attendees (or returning attendees seeking to network), there will be a 1st Timers Meet Up in the Expo Hall from 4:15 to 4:45 pm.
Engineer of the Year
The technical sessions resume Thursday at 8 am. The Thursday keynote session, at 10 am, is “Enabling Global Connectivity with Low Earth Orbit Satellite Technology,” which examines Amazon’s Project Kuiper, a massive effort to deploy over 3,000 low Earth Orbit satellites to improve global Internet connectivity. Preceding the talk is the presentation of the DesignCon Engineer of the Year, an annual award given to a member of the engineering community for his or her significant contributions to industry, particularly in the areas of power and signal integrity.
A full day of exhibits takes place from 11 am to 6 pm. Another booth bar crawl to unwind takes place at 5 pm.
