Supply-chain challenges and geopolitical events have had their effects on the semiconductor industry, but generally speaking, times remain good for semiconductor vendors as applications such as 5G, the Internet of Things, and advanced vehicles continue to create strong demand for new, high-performance semiconductors.

Earlier this year, Informa’s market research arm Omdia compiled a list of the top 10 global semiconductor vendors for 2021. Not surprisingly, Intel and Samsung led the list of who’s who in semiconductors. Except for Intel, all these vendors reported impressive revenue increases last year—in the case of AMD, a 67% increase.

Given continuing supply-chain challenges and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, the rankings of the top 10 semiconductor suppliers are likely to change a year from now. Also, it is difficult to say at this point whether the leading semiconductor vendors will enjoy the same double-digit revenue increases they saw in 2021.

The leading semiconductor suppliers follow in the gallery, in order of 2021 revenue.
