Nieman Marcus To Sell Electric 'Cupcake Car'

The consumer media is atwitter over the new “Cupcake Car,” a $25,000 electric vehicle that’s being sold by Neiman Marcus in its 2009 Christmas Book.

The vehicle, which looks like a cupcake and has a top speed of seven miles per hour, is being described as “one sweet EV” by Wired Magazine and “the tastiest electric vehicle around” by inhabit.com. On its website, Neiman Marcus says that owners can “bring it to work and buzz the breakroom” or “crash parades!”

Media popularity of car has apparently taken off; a quick Google search for “cupcake car” yields 27,400 hits.

Designed by a Bay Area artist, the Cupcake Car was originally shown as a cooperative art car project at the co-called Burning Man event in northern Nevada.

Neiman Marcus says the vehicle uses a “24-volt electric motor, a heavy-duty battery, sheet metal, wire, fabric, wood…and mad genius.”

The company’s website does not mention what other features are included in the $25,000 pricetag, or how it can be used other than to “crash parades” and “buzz the breakroom.”
