In brief: Materials

In brief: Materials

Vesta Inc. accommodates custom molding requirements with liquid injection molding (LIM), LIM prototyping, as well as transfer and insert-molding capabilities. The company produces components including parts with difficult undercuts, non-proportionate cross-sections, and large aspect ratios. Molded offerings include seals, strain reliefs, manifolds, and connectors.

Torlon(R) polyamide-imide from DSM Engineering Plastic Products Inc. offers stiffness and strength at temperature extremes to 500F. Torlon also provides dimensional control due to its low coefficient of thermal expansion and is available in nine grades.

An epoxy molding compound from Fiberite Inc. combines moldability and performance advantages in passive electronic-component encapsulation applications. The transfer-moldable/injection-grade material called E-8941 includes passive electronic components that include resistors, capacitors, relays, inductors, and other multi-lead small electronic packages.

Dow Corning 1-2577 conformal coating is an environmentally friendly version of the company's most popular conformal coating. Like the original, the one-part formulation cures at room temperature to an elastoplastic resin that the company says is highly resistant to harsh service conditions.
