Technology remains a key weapon in the fight against terrorism. The TWIC requires the nearly 1 million longshoremen, sailors, truck drivers and other laborers in the U.S. to use tamper-resistant smart cards when they enter U.S. port facilities. The TSA recently approved four biometric readers from Sagem Morpho. These point-of-entry readers use TWIC Privacy Keys to read encrypted biometric data such as digital fingerprints.
