There’s a lot more to online 3D virtual worlds than Avatars and fun and games. As hot spot destinations like Second Life gain in popularity, many leading companies, including one very well-known CAD and PLM software provider, are hopping aboard to see how the virtual world can help them better connect to customers.
UGS is launching UGS Innovation Connection within Second Life, making it the first PLM company to create a presence in this mainstream online virtual world. UGS will use various locations throughout the Innovation Connection to collaborate with customers and partners, host virtual conferences and provide what it bills as a more immersive way to experience its solutions as they’re used day-to-day by customers around the world.
UGS customers showcased on the Innovation Connection within Second Life include: Hendrick Motorsports, a NASCAR racing organization, which uses UGS NX and Teamcenter software to optimize engine configurations; JCB Dieselmax, a record-breaking car designed with UGS software; and The Alloy, a U.K.-based product design consultancy which employed UGS solutions to design its Concept Mobile Phone, displayed in the virtual world.
