European F-16 shoots and scores with first AMRAAM

Eglin AFB, FL--A Danish F-16B, in the first launch of an Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air missile (AMRAAM) by an international operator of the aircraft, downed a maneuvering target in only the second overland firing at the base. Typical European winter weather--rain, a scattered cloud deck at 12,000 ft, and low-level icing--added realism for the joint Danish/Dutch crew, which also scored a simulated hit on a companion target with a captive-carry missile. The test aircraft is one in the Mid-Life Update program to upgrade the radar, mission computer, and software on early F-16s, providing for interceptions.
