According to PayScale, the BLS, and Recruit.com, engineering salaries increased during 2022. Yet the salary increases fell short of the inflation rate.

An IEEE survey in 2022 revealed an average salary of $160,097 for electrical engineers. That was up from $154,443 in 2020, but the raise fell short of the inflation rate. It’s nearly $4,500 lower when adjusted for inflation. IEEE notes this is the first significant drop in real earnings since 2013.

Here are the median salaries for 16 engineering disciplines. The salary numbers were collected from PayScale, Recruit.com, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
