An Important Workshop on Battery Safety

Shmuel De-Leon
The Battery Show will include several interesting and timely pre-show workshops, including this one on battery safety.

As battery energy density increases and fast charging of electric vehicles (EVs) becomes more common, it is important to consider battery safety issues. That is the purpose of a pre-show “Battery Safety Training” workshop that will be held on September 10th in Novi, Michigan.

The workshop will be taught by Shmuel De-Leon, an international battery expert with 30 years of know-how in the battery industry. Shmuel has directly relevant and practical experience from his many years as a battery-safety events investigator officer in Israel.

The training program focuses on both portable and stationary battery safety in every stage of the battery’s cycle life, including acceptance, testing, assembly, use, transportation, and disposal. High voltage battery safety for electric vehicles and grid storage will be discussed and covered as well.

“One severe safety event can set us back years,” noted Shmuel De-Leon. “The workshop will deal with the battery safety risk and discuss practical, safe methods to safely work with batteries,” Shmuel told Design News. “What to do in case of a safety event will be covered, along with a check list of safety equipment needed for battery labs and warehouses.”

The pre-show workshop training provides:

  • A full review of root cause for selected battery safety events
  • Guidelines on how to handle batteries safely
  • What-to-do guidelines in case of a battery safety event
  • A checklist of safety equipment needed
  • Fresh and updated knowledge about battery safety

Who Should Attend

The training promises to provide attendees with the knowledge needed to safely handle the batteries in their organization and to support a reduction in safety events. The workshop is pitched at a range of battery roles including:

  • Battery and energy storage users
  • Pack assemblers
  • Cell makers
  • Energy storage suppliers
  • Academic researchers
  • Energy storage/power R&D engineers
  • Organization safety managers
  • Battery shippers and those tasked with disposal
  • E-mobility industry members
  • Other industry members
