LG Electronics’ Chocolate Cell Phone

This thin, multi-functional cell phone includes a 1.3 megapixel camera, as well as the ability to surf the Internet and listen to music. To achieve the small size and send digital data to the display in the sliding cover, LG Electronics’ engineers chose Fairchild Semiconductor’s FIN24AC µSerDes. The mixed-signal (digital and analog) IC reduces a parallel data path to a high-speed serial link for six to seven times fewer wires. A tip-off to the analog portion includes the specification of 30 to 40 dB lower electromagnetic interference (EMI) at the fundamental frequency with harmonics reduced to less than -100 dBm.
